Mike Sevon moved to Ely, Nevada at the age of 14 and was entranced by the subtle beauty of Nevada's High Desert. While attending the University of Nevada, he purchased a 35 mm Maymiya Sekor camera and honed his photography skills on solo backbacking trips in eastern Nevada. Although his photos were published on magazine covers as early as 1973, his photography was sidelined when the camera was dropped in a stream in 1977.

A leap to digital in 2003 renewed his passion to document and share the beauty of the wild Nevada outdoors with others.

Wandering Nevada for over 35 years with the Nevada Department of Wildlife has given Mike a rare insight on some of areas best landscapes. Mike retired from the Nevada Department of Wildlife in July of 2006 and has been pursuing his photography passion while hunting, fishing and backpacking the Great Basin He knows once you have seen his photographs you will come to understand why Nevada is so special.
